After lots of success in Maadi and Tora since 2018, this waste reporting application will soon be available in more neighbourhoods in Cairo.
‘Dawar is an application created by Environ-Adapt in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and GIZ Egypt.’ as described in the App Store.
Essentially, you take a photo, register the GPS coordinates and the waste will be cleaned up shortly. They even take a photo of the now pristine spot – to show you that the job has been done.
You can even rate the job and share the success story with your friends and family.
In June, Dawar was crowned the official waste monitoring and management system for the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Qena, Assiut, Gharbiya and Kafr El-Sheikh after Environ-Adapt signed a protocol with the Ministry of Environment.
Their social media feeds show you the before and afters of spots. In such a bustling town, where spots ma be missed, this is a great way to tackle little in the streets.
Here you have it folks; an example of using technology for good. It’s available in the App Store and in Google Play.
