Nuweiba’s Habiba Organic Farm and Eco-Lodge has been not only a unique beachside getaway but a trendsetter in agro-tourism in Egypt. It was initially a modest camp created by a couple looking to escape the noises of the city life, and now it’s a groundbreaking in spreading agro-tourism.

They’re certified by World Wide opportunities on Organic Farms, an international organization that promotes agro-tourism, owners Maged and Loreina El Saeed offer volunteers from across the world, free accommodation and meals in exchange for work on the farm and a taste of the simple more green and healthy life.

The owners trying to spread awareness on sustainability and organic healthy lifestyle, it also shows in their set-up, it feeds into their goals of sustaining themselves and the lodge, as well as giving back to the local Bedouin communities that welcomed them so warmly when Habiba was just nothing but a mere simple idea.

They welcome people into their lodge even engineering and architecture students, they give them a chance to work on capstone projects by building and maintaining structures and facilities using nothing but 100% sustainable and upcycled materials.

Agro-tourism is still an alien and strange concept in Egypt, but places like Habiba continues to show us that Sinai and in many other places across the country it’s a potentially rich form of niche tourism.
